Tropilicious Ice Cream and Sorbet was founded in 1995 when tropical fruits and ice cream found themselves mixed up together on the kitchen counter of two young entrepreneurs in Honolulu with a passion for the flavor of aloha. Soon these mouth-watering treats met sweet success after knocking on doors and asking chefs and restaurateurs to try the product.
Using the best of Hawaiian fruits and natural ingredients the company became a tropical garden of trial and error, of curiosity and experimentation, and of true personal commitment. Each flavor was touched by aloha and tended to by local-style malama (care).
Tropilicious went beyond flagship flavors such as Haupialani and Kona Coffee and discovered the ability to make virtually any flavor a hotel or restaurant chef could think of, including champagne and caviar sorbet, wasabi ginger ice cream, or even peanut butter and jelly sorbet made especially for keiki (children).
One chef at David Paul's specially requested a sorbet to serve with one of his courses on the night his restaurant opened: a balsamic red wine vinegar and shallots sorbet he served with oysters on a half shell! This was a reminder that Tropilicious was an opportunity to experiment.
In addition to the more unique flavors, signature flavors grew to include lychee, lilikoi, guava, mango and "T'ree berries" or three berries in one sorbet (blackberry, strawberry and cranberry). Big companies began approaching, not just because of our ability to tailor the flavor of aloha, but also because of the proven quality and consistency of our product -- always good top-of-the-line ingredients, made with care, and not too sweet.
Thanks to success with persistence and the taste of Hawai'i, today there are more than 32 flavors of Tropilicious sorbet and 22 flavors of Tropilicious ice cream. The flagship flavors are widely available. And Tropilicious Ice Cream and Sorbet keeps meeting the challenge, being creative, and above all, having fun!
